Herbert Dwight Hitt

Herbert Dwight Hitt, 78, of Benton, a loving husband, father, and grandpa, passed away at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 24, 2002 at the Herrin Hospital.
Dwight was a retired mine manager having worked for Freeman Coal Company and Peabody Coal Company.
He was of the protestant faith. He was a 32 degree Mason and was a member of the Freeburg Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He was born February 3, 1924 in Perry County, IL the son of John and Beulah (Hamilton) Hitt.
He married Ora Jean Moore on July 10, 1946 at Morganfield, Kentucky.
He is survived by his wife Ora Jean Hitt of Benton, children- Brenda Crabtree and husband Bob of St.Louis,MO, Peggy Hall and husband Jerry of Benton, Dwight Dean Hitt and wife Rita of Mulkeytown and Lisa Sabo and husband Raymond of Benton, sister- Sharon Hubbard and husband Jiles of Tamaroa, thirteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Marion Guy and Bob Hitt.
Private family services were held Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with Rev. Claude Hampleman officiating.
Friends called on the Herbert Dwight Hitt family on Monday, October 28, 2002 from 1 to 3 P.M. at the Greenwood United Methodist Church at Mulkeytown.
